Delegates from the Hebei
Polytechnic Institute (HPI) visited Kampar Campus on 1 June 2016. The visit
aimed to build rapport between UTAR and HPI in order to promote mutual
understanding and discuss opportunities for future collaboration between
both institutions in the aspect of student and staff exchange programmes and
future joint research collaborations.
Delegates from HPI were its Government
Supervision Specialist Zhao Xiaoying, Supervisor of HPI Xu Shunting, and
Dean of College of International Cooperation and Cultural Exchange Liu Hong.
The visitors were cordially welcomed by UTAR
President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, accompanied by
Vice-President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei, Faculty
of Science Dean Dr Lim Tuck Meng, Faculty of Engineering and Green
Technology Dean Dr Yap Vooi Voon, Faculty of Business and Finance Dean Prof
Dr Choong Chee Keong, and Faculty of Information and Communication
Technology Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes
Dr Cheng Wai Khuen.
Prof Chuah addressed the guests and gave a brief
introduction of UTAR, Malaysia’s education system, and the Chinese community
in Malaysia. He said, “Malaysian Chinese place a great emphasis on
education since ancient times. It is also worth mentioning that UTAR is a
not-for-profit and comprehensive university whose growth was contributed by
the Chinese community.”
“We encourage our students to join student
exchange programmes to broaden their horizons, as your academic days are the
perfect time to establish a strong social network. Last year, we received
around three hundred foreign exchange students to study in UTAR,” he added.
Impressed by the Kampar Campus’ beautiful scenery
and UTAR’s rapid growth in a mere 14 years since its inception, Zhao said,
“We look forward to international exchanges and cooperation with UTAR. UTAR
can be a positive platform for our students and teachers to exchange
knowledge and further their studies.” She also gave a brief introduction
about HPI and the education system in China during the meeting.
