Participants practising some drills
A Taekwondo seminar titled “PGTF Black Belt
Pattern seminar” was held at Sungai Long Campus on 29 May 2016. This seminar
aimed to enhance participants’ physical fitness, technical skills, as well
as creating awareness on the importance of extra-curricular activities.
Deputy Education Minister YB Senator Chong Sin
Woon said, in his speech read out by Pung Wei Hung, studies are important
for students, but so are extra-curricular activities. “Physical Education
(PE) helps students’ to refresh their minds and bodies so that they can
perform in their studies.”
“I hope participation in extra-curricular
activities can be increased year-on-year so that students will get the
opportunity to develop self-discipline, teamwork, and their social network
which will prepare them for their future career path,” he continued. Chong
also commended UTAR for having more than 60 clubs and societies operating in
the university.
Participants putting their new skills into
practice
“One of the guiding principles of UTAR is
Physical and Mental Health, therefore it is no surprise that UTAR always
supports students in extra-curricular activities, which are essential for
students to reach their full potential,” said UTAR President Ir Prof
Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik.
“We strive to provide the best facilities to
enable our students to carry out their passions such as the Sports Complex
in Kampar Campus,” he continued.
This seminar was jointly organised by the
Pan-Malaysia Global Taekwondo Federation (PGTF) and UTAR Taekwondo Club.
