Physio Day 2016

Students and members of the public had the opportunity to learn about physical health at the Physio Day held from 5 to 6 June 2016 at Sungai Long Campus. Some of the activities conducted were aerobics, zumba, hydrotherapy, health screening, and an exhibition on spinal care.

“Our goal is to improve the public’s quality of life by providing the knowledge we’ve learned in our classes,” said Physio Day chairperson Oh Yee Hwei. Oh, who is pursuing the Physiotherapy programme, said this carnival is a training ground for future healthcare professionals like her.

“Such efforts reflect UTAR’s commitment in providing a strong undergraduate education, which encourages the intellectual and personal development of students in order to respond to professional and community needs,” Prof Chuah said.

“In such events, students learn about communication, time management, leadership, and teamwork, all of which are experiences, skills, and knowledge that will enhance their careers later on,” said Ong.

Department of Physiotherapy Head Pramod Divakara Shenoy also reminded students that they play a key role in empowering people with long-term conditions to achieve their goals.

Physiotherapy has increasingly becoming a popular programme for those who seek a specialised career in the healthcare field other than medicine. Originally designed to help people with disorders relating to the movement of the limbs, it has since become popular in the treatment of many ailments such as those afflicting the heart, lungs, and the nervous system.

The Physio Day was organised by the Department of Physiotherapy of the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
