UTAR and SJK (C) Kampung Baru Tanah Merah Site A students and staff
The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Sungai Long Campus held a half-day learning camp titled “Amazing Learning Camp for Standard Four, Five and Six Students” held at SJK (C) Kampung Baru Tanah Merah Site A, Negeri Sembilan on 4 November 2016. The camp aimed to enhance school students’ critical thinking and learning skills.
The camp was divided into two parts — a science and mathematics workshop followed by a treasure hunt. Some of the topics covered in the workshop were algebra and physics.
For the treasure hunt, the school students were divided into ten teams, each led by a UTAR student. They were required to solve the clues given by the station masters in order to reveal the treasure’s location.

The camp was proposed by the school’s Headmistress Tan Sock Kiang and was led by CFS Lecturers Teen Soh Hong, Liang Chooi Ling and Ngo Siau Woon. In addition, 12 UTAR students volunteered as tutors and team leaders for the treasure hunt.
They consisted of Foundation students Chee Zher Shen, Chong Chee Hao, Law Yung Siang, Lee Kien Lee, Loh Kah Yann, Loke Yee Mun, Tan Swee Mun, Woo Bing Hong, Yang Hui Yee and Yap Hong Leong; and Accounting students Marcuss Ling Ji Jie and Tan Chee Koon.
Teen, Liang and Ngo saw it as an opportunity for their students to learn about community care. “We hope that the UTAR students will learn to be caring and responsible citizens through this project,” said Teen.
Tan also hoped that UTAR would be able to organise another learning camp in the near future.
