Over 600 participants took part in the UTAR Splash Trekathon 2016 held on 13 November 2016. The run featured a 6-kilometre route with water activities and aimed to promote the importance of wellness on campus.

“Exercising improves attention, speed of mental processing, and the ability to perform cognitive tasks. There is also evidence of the connection between exercise and the higher mental processes of memory and the ability to juggle different intellectual tasks at the same time,” said UTAR Council Chairman Tun Dr Ling Liong Sik.
“Remember, both your body and mind need activity to function at their peak. The human brain has boundless potential to enable us for creation, innovation, advancement, development and transformation,” he continued.

Foundation student Jacqueline Law Khai Chi said, “This is my first time participating in a run with water activities.” She also hoped there would be more runs like this in the future.
Participants were also treated to several routines by the UTAR Dance Club, songs by a cappella group Black Muffin, performances by the UTAR 24 Festive Drums ensemble, and a rave party by DJ group BassKiKDrop.
Also present at the run were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong and Department of Student Affairs Head Loh Nyuk Leung.
The UTAR Splash Trekathon 2016 was organised by the Department of Student Affairs of Sungai Long Campus’ (DSA-SL) Sports and Recreation Unit (SRU).
