UTAR Cultural Ambassador 2016

To promote intercultural understanding and global awareness on campus, the Asian Cultural Society (ACS) of Kampar Campus successfully organised the UTAR Cultural Ambassador 2016 event at the Kampar Campus on 31 July 2016.

It was aimed to instil the values of multiculturalism, inclusion, diversity and leadership among UTAR students and the community.

During the opening ceremony, ACS Advisor Charles Ramendran praised the organising committee’s efforts in making the event a success. He said, “I am overjoyed to attend this meaningful event promoting multiculturalism and intercultural communication that aims to share knowledge across different cultures.”  He added that this event is also a good platform for students to interact with one another and build friendships.

Organising Chairperson S. Kaweshana expressed her gratitude to everyone for their participation, kind presence and support towards the event. “We believe this will be a great opportunity for all UTAR students to engage with one another as well as to uphold unity, peace and harmony.”

Attended by more than 80 participants, the event commenced with an elevating Chinese traditional dance performance echoing the event’s vision and goal. This was followed by the introduction of the UTAR Cultural Ambassador pairs representing a total of five countries, namely Cambodia, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka and Thailand. The participants were attired in colourful traditional garments of their respective selected countries and presented a three-minute PowerPoint presentation of the country. The participants were also asked to introduce and explain traditional aspects such as food, culture, arts, history and origin of the countries they have selected.

With the aim to encourage more students participation in future, each participant were also awarded with certificate of participation. The pairs were assessed based on their creativity, presentation skills, level of confidence and leadership.

The event was then followed by a line-up of amazing performances ranging from classical Indian dances to exciting multiethnic dances. The event ended with a certificate presentation ceremony to all the participants.

The organising committee members and participants were all smiles for a group photograph
