Sixth UTAR Kampar Campus Run

Hundreds of runners took part in the UTAR Kampar Campus Run 2016 on 23 October 2016. Organised by the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) of UTAR Kampar Campus, the 12km run was flagged off at the Sports Complex of UTAR Kampar Campus by UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong.

The run, an annual event since 2011, attracted more than 540 runners and aimed to promote a healthy lifestyle among students and the Kampar community. The organising chairperson of the run, S. Theva Das from the Sports and Recreation Unit of DSA said, “The annual affair has been organised consecutively for the past six years to foster community engagement among UTAR students and the Kampar community. It also aimed to educate the younger generation about the importance of outdoor activities and living a healthy lifestyle.”

Staff and students competed in the UTAR Men’s and UTAR Women’s categories, while members of the public contested in the Men’s Open and Women’s Open categories. The participants from as far as Sungai Long Campus thronged the Sports Complex as early as 5.30am to register and collect their goody bags.

Also present at the event were DSA (Kampar Campus) Head Chiang Jeng Fong, sponsors, organising committee members, staff and students.

In the UTAR Men’s category, Finance graduate Chen Kai Hao, Food Science student Collymore Tang Yong Fung and Foundation student Chia See Leng were the Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up respectively. Public Relations student Imelda Tan Ler Min, Foundation student Lim Jie Ying and Actuarial Science student Lim Chew Ying were Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up respectively in the UTAR Women’s category.

Godfreyi, Jacob and Mohammad Izul Amirul, were the Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up respectively in the Men’s Open category. Meanwhile, Carolyne Jepkosgei, Choo Ngiik Hung and Sin Pei Chan, were the Champion, First Runner-up, and Second Runner-up respectively in the Women’s Open category.

The top three winners from each category took home RM300, RM200 and RM100 respectively. They also received a trophy, medal and a certificate of participation.
