Centre for Sustainable Development and Corporate Social Responsibility in Business (CSDCSR) organised a one-day seminar on Disaster Risk Reduction and Management at Sungai Long Campus on 27 March 2017.

A senior lecturer from Multimedia University, Dr Magiswary Dorasamy was the first presenter who deliberated on the needs of a web-based knowledge management systems for calamity management. The purpose of her speech was to give the researchers a hands-on experience to analyse unstructured or qualitative data, in this case on risk management, using NVivo 11 Pro software.
Dr Magiswary specialises in qualitative research method and she is well-experienced in using qualitative research tools especially NVivo, a software designed for qualitative researchers working with very rich text-based and multimedia information, where deep levels of analysis on small or large volumes of data are required.
To spice up the seminar, there were several other researchers who shared their knowledge by presenting their studies. Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI) lecturer Saraswathy Thurairaj and Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) lecturer Komathi Munusamy, presented their research with the title A Study of the Employability of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Malaysia, which provided interesting insights into the specific employment issues faced by PWDs. Later, an investigation on Disaster Awareness and Preparedness of Malaysian Communities - Qualitative Approach was presented by FAM lecturer Esther Chin Wai Yin. Also present at the seminar were FAM lecturers Khong Yeen Lai, Malathi Nair, and Jeya Santhini. They ended the seminar with a research titled Natural Disaster’s Public Awareness and Preparedness Survey in Klang Valley, Malaysia with its primary focus on disaster awareness.
