Educational Trip by CFS

The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) Kampar Campus organised an educational trip to the duck and prawn farm in Tanjung Tualang and the Gaharu Tea Valley in Gopeng, Perak on 27January 2018.

The trip consisted of 22 students and they were accompanied by CFS staff, namely Student Affairs and Development (Kampar Campus) Deputy Director Lim Khiew Loon and lecturers Yip Mei Theen, Ooi Siew Fong, Lionel Keith Vytialingam, Nur Diyana binti Roshide, Yuvashini Salvamani, Noor Aina Farhana binti Zulkifli, Lim Kun Yin, Chung Zi Ling, Mohd Rizalman bin Abd Rahman, Hazel Lim Hui Ling, Koo Xi Min, and Sarah binti Shamshul Anwar. The trip aimed to enhance the students’ exposure and understanding regarding agricultural businesses.

Upon arriving at the duck farm, Special Officer to Deputy Minister of Finance Daniel Wa Wai How briefed regarding the total number of ducks reared by the farm owner and the process of collecting duck eggs every morning to be delivered to the markets for selling purpose. After the briefing, the students were given an opportunity to collect the eggs themselves and arrange them in the trays provided.

Furthermore, the participants were also brought to the nearby prawn farm to see how the prawns were caught using the nets. Some of the students took the opportunity to try out their hands and their attempts were successful, which brought great joy to them. In addition, the participants also witnessed beautiful carving and murals on the wall, antique car and an artificial train in Tanjung Tualang.

The participants then travelled to Gaharu Tea Valley in Gopeng to learn about the species of Gaharu trees planted in the valley which was also known as “Holistic Gaharu” or “HOGA”. One of the staff, Williamexplained about the medicinal, spiritual, aromatherapy, cosmetic and fragrant uses of Gaharu. The participants also had the opportunity to try the sample of HOGA Tea.

Later on, the participants were brought to visit the plantation site, where they observed 200,000 Gaharu trees of different ages. The students also took a quick stop at the Viewing Stage, Hugging Park and the Lovers’ Park, where they saw the 200-year-old pair of intertwined trees. The educational trip ended with a memorable group photo session and saw the students gaining meaningful experiences.
