The Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) organised the Final Year Project (FYP) Conference on 14 April 2017 at Kampar Campus.

Attended by over 100 audience comprising academic staff and students, the FYP Conference is a one-day research conference where shortlisted undergraduate final year projects are presented by the undergraduates. The conference also served as an avenue for them to share their research ideas and findings.

A total of 14 best FYPs were nominated from the undergraduate programmes currently offered by FBF, namely Business Administration, Banking and Finance, Entrepreneurship, Accounting, Financial Economics, Finance, and Marketing, with the respective group presenting to a panel of judges as well as the audience.

Congratulating the groups for being nominated as the top 14 outstanding FYPs among others, FBF Dean Dr Au Yong Hui Nee also complimented them for putting extra effort to prepare the posters and also the presentations despite being busy with the final exams. Dr Au Yong also encouraged them to share and exchange their research ideas and findings with others as a way to improve themselves.

The judges, namely Centre of Business and Management Chairperson Dr. Peter a/l Yacob, Centre for Economic Studies Chairperson Dr Yii Kwang Jing, Department of Entrepreneurship academics Dr Tan Luen Peng, Khor Hooi Ching; Department of Commerce and Accountancy academics Dr Zam Zuriyati Binti Mohamad, Leong Lai Ying; Department of Business academics Dr Ng Lee Peng, Chan Ling Meng; Department of Economics academic Dr Go You How; Department of Marketing academics Dr Khor Saw Chin, Teo Aik Chuan; and Department of Finance academics Cheah Chee Keong, Lim Chong Heng, Yip Pick Schen and Wan Rozima Binti Mior Ahmed Shahimi, assessed all 14 groups based on the quality of their posters as well as their group presentations.

The FYP Conference came to an end after three groups emerged as Champion, First Runner-up and Second Runner-up respectively. The list of winning groups is as follows:

1. Champion

           Project Title: Unveiling the mask of sovereign default
           Students: Pang Yun Chi, Tan Zhao Tong, Wong Kah Wei, Wong Vi Vian and Wong Yin Shan
           Supervisor: Assoc Prof Dr Wong Chin Yoong
           Programme: Bachelor of Finance (Hons) Financial Economics

2. First Runner-up

           Project Title: The Wallet Sdn. Bhd.
           Students: Yew Pei Ting, Ang Jia Li, Ooi Lee Mun, Tan Jun Ling and Choh Pooi Ying
           Supervisor: Mohamad Fared bin Mohamad Makmor
           Programme: Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Entrepreneurship

3. Second Runner-up

           Project Title: Travel Motivation among Muslim Tourists in Malaysia
           Students: Chin Chiu Yin, Chye Jin Yin, Lee Sen Xin and Liew Wen Ying
           Supervisor: Dr Gengeswari a/p Krishnapillai
           Programme: Bachelor of Marketing (Hons)

All the participants received a certificate of participation each while the winning teams were awarded with certificates of excellence.

The winning FYP posters were also displayed at FBF’s Faculty Research Corner. To further cultivate research interests among the winners and to promote academic exposure, the winning teams are also sponsored by the Faculty to attend FBF’s upcoming International Conference on Business, Accounting, Finance, and Economics (BAFE) in October 2017.
