A pathway to successful business

Seow giving examples of successful entrepreneurs

“Business is about setting high standards,” quoted by the United States of America’s President Donald Trump and was shared with the participants by Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) lecturer Seow Ai Na, at a talk held at Kampar Campus on 19 July 2017.

Titled “Career Pathway in Business”, the talk, organised by the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) Kampar, aimed to provide participants with information about the career prospects in business and to explain the roles of managers, entrepreneurs and marketers. With that valuable information, the talk hoped to instil participants with the consciousness of their role in the business industry.

Seow also spoke about employment, remuneration and employer’s expectation, and later shared some inspiring stories from successful entrepreneurs, namely AirAsia Berhad Founder Tan Sri Anthony Francis Fernandes, Chairman and Founder of Top Glove Sdn Bhd Tan Sri Dr Lim Wee Chai, and Coca-Cola Founder Dr John S. Pemberton.

Apart from successful entrepreneur stories used to inspire participants to pursue a career in business, the speaker also assured the participants’ enrolment at FBF by sharing useful information on how FBF programmes can help to prepare the students for the challenging business world. Among the many ways, Seow mentioned of the comprehensive coverage of the FBF programmes designed to encourage the intellectual and personal development of students to the professional and community needs. The internship was also included and through its supportive and challenging environment, was said to be able to help students realise their full potential and skills.

“If you wish to become an entrepreneur, join a company as an employee to gain experience,” advised Seow, who also emphasised the importance of being a member of The Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administration (ICSA) to get timely and accurate professional information that is essential for individual and organisational performance. Through ICSA, members can access vast resources, insights and advice, and help members maintain good practice in governance, and to achieve career aspirations.

Seow, who has experience in both education and corporate field also encouraged the participants to be creative with idea thinking in order to be successful in the business industry. She also later introduced FBF’s new programme, Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Retail Management and highlighted to participants the top ten retailers in the world.

The talk then ended with a certificate presentation by the CFS Kampar Deputy Director for Student Affairs and Development Lim Khiew Loon to Seow.
