MHSS Mental Health Day

The Medical and Health Science Society (MHSS) in collaboration with Asian’s Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) organised the MHSS Mental Health Day 2017 on 24 November 2017 at Sungai Long Campus. A total of 63 participated in the event.

Present at the event were representatives from the Early Autism Project Malaysia (EAP), National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM), Malaysian Mental Health Association (MMHA), Hypnosis Integrative Hub @ LifeCare Diagnostic Medical Centre Consultant Hiro Koo, UTAR Drama Club members, staff and students.

Koo gave a brief talk on “Mind and Body Relationship” and demonstrated the analysis of “Brainwave Analysis (EEG) Biofeedback”. The talk provided deep insights about the brain activity and its influence on our body while helping students and members of the public to further understand the state of mental health.

MMHA Jacquelyn Tan gave a talk to the students and public on “The Mental Health in the 21st Century Youths” which covered topics such as schizophrenia and depression. The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) lecturer Lan Yen Min gave free health check-up and a brief talk about various traditional Chinese medications and herbs, techniques as well the type and methods of acupuncture to the participants.

Various activities were held aside from talks such as medical check-up stations which measured the blood pressure and Body Mass Index (BMI), Mental Health exhibition and drama performance.
