The Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) ushered in the new year with a luncheon held at Sungai Long Campus on 5 January 2017. The annual celebration aimed to build solidarity between faculties, as well as strengthen ties between staff and students.

In his welcoming remarks, FMHS Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng welcomed all the guests to the celebration and thanked them for making it a joyous one. Also present were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik.
The gathering saw several performances by FMHS lecturers, FMHS Faculty General Office (FGO) staff, and MBBS and Nursing students.

Songs performed were “Nenje Ezhu”, “Best Friend Forever” and “You Raise Me Up”by FMHS FGO staff; “Benci Tapi Rindu”and “True Colours” by UTAR Hospital Project Chief Administrative Officer Chor Choy Yook;“The Moon Represents My Heart” by Prof Dr Jenny Parameshvara Deva and Year Four MBBS students Beatrice Chia Shi Yun, Janice Teh Yin, Lee Yong Hong and Thong Ching Fung;“A New Start Today” by Prof Dr John Paul Evangel Judson;“Terima Kasih Sahabat” by FMHS FGO’s Carolyn Teo Ai Ting; and“Try” by Year One Nursing students Teo Jin Yan, Ong Hui Yuan and Alvina Joan Gregory.
There were also a light dance by Year Four MBBS students Chan Farn Xuan, Choong Mei Ping, Chew Yi Zhung, Lee Yong Hong, Lidiapriya Subramaniam, Nga Rou Yi, Ng Bin Hong, Ong Li Yin and Amelia Yong Jia En; a contemporary Indian dance by Raadshini Vejayakumar; and a sketch by Year Two MBBS students Sopia Novalina R Guk Guk Surjanto, Edward Low Koon Yei, Soon Chai Yean, Lim Qiu Yip and Tam Yew Ming.
Faculty of Creative Industries (FCI), Department of Media Lecturer Muhamad Albarr Bin Che Omar hoped that students would pay more attention in their classes as well as practice the lessons in their assignments.
FMHS, Department of Pre-clinical Sciences Lecturer Dr Wong Jun Leong also reminded students that studying in medical courses require hard work, self-discipline and focus to succeed. This event was organised by the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences.
