“The Star Sponsorship” event took place at Sungai Long Campus on 24 January 2017. The purpose of the event was to acknowledge the sponsorship of The Star newspapers by Fujifilm for the students and staff of UTAR.

Present at the event were Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Department of Student Affairs (DSA) Head Loh Nyuk Loong, DSA staff and Student Representative Council (SRC) members. Representing Fujifilm were its Executive Director Zarinah Abd Hamid and Corporate Communication Executive Fennie Eng, while from the Star Media Group Berhad were its Assistant Manager of Audience Management Dr Alvin Liew and Sales Executive Fifie Yahya.

“I feel very honoured to be involved in this project. Students are our future leaders and I believe we need to cultivate the culture of reading among them,” said Zahrina.

Prof Choong said, “This project has given our students and staff the opportunity to gain information on current news and to enhance their learning as newspapers provide quality coverage and comprehensive information which are reliably sourced.”

“As we aim for excellence in education, I strongly urge students to read newspapers on a constant basis in order to get updated with the latest news and developments which are relevant to their programmes,” remarked Dr Liew.

SRC President Ng Zi Kent mentioned, “This sponsorship will allow students to learn and read not only to improve their language, but also to be informed on current news and policy which are important for their future career prospects.”

The event was followed by a souvenir presentation and photography session, and ended with some networking over refreshments.
