The Student Representative Council (SRC) 2016/17 to the new SRC 2017/18 handover ceremony was held at Sungai Long Campus on 29 June 2017.

Present at the ceremony were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Acting Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, Centre for Foundation Studies Director Melissa Stefanie Netto, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Department of Student Affairs Head (Sungai Long Campus) Loh Nyuk Leung, Department of Student Affairs Head (Kampar Campus) Chiang Jeng Fong, staff and students.

Prof Chuah congratulated both new and outgoing SRC members and said, “There are two sides to a coin and when you face challenges, don’t jump to a conclusion but find out what has happened. SRC is indeed a good platform to learn certain skills which are helpful for your future undertakings. To the new members, remember to play your role as the bridge between the students and the university, and at the same time learn to sharpen your communication skills, judgment skills and also learn to set priorities in order to balance between your study life and the SRC activities,” said Prof Chuah.

“I hope the new SRC members will continue the spirit to serve the students and collaborate well with the university management.  As for the current members, I hope we will continue to carry our team spirit in the future and will continue to keep in touch. When faced with challenges, overcome the obstacles and improve yourself to become a better person to serve the community,” said 2016/17 SRC Chairperson (Kampar) Liew Siong Hian.

2016/17 SRC Chairperson (Sungai Long) Ng Zi Kent said, “There are three things to remember; which are time management, people management and stress management. Focus on goals and missions that are aligned with the university’s vision and mission. When faced with obstacles and you feel like giving up, think about why you actually started it in the first place.”
