Talks on e-Commerce

Speakers and participants at the two-day course

Faculty of Information and Communication Technology (FICT) of UTAR in collaboration with the e-Business Association Malaysia (eBAM) successfully organised an introductory e-Commerce course for small and medium sized enterprises at its Kampar Campus from 01 to 02 July 2017.

Attended by more than 150 participants, the two-day course, titled “eBAM-UTAR Beginner Course for e-Commerce” aimed to discuss the role of e-Commerce in marketing today. Also present at the course were FICT Dean Assoc Prof Dr Liew Soung Yue, Faculty of Science Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lim Tuck Meng, Student Development and Industrial Training Deputy Dean Dr Choo Peng Yin, lecturers and staff.

The course was divided into two major sections. The first section was held on 01 July 2017 in which the course saw the presence of three speakers, namely Dr Wong Whee Yen from the Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science, Dr Choo and Dr Lim Seng Chee from FICT who delivered a series of talk titled “Selling Online”, “e-Commerce Analytics” and “Payment Gateway” respectively.

On the second day, a total of three speakers, namely the Dean of International Education Institute of Chaoshan Vocational and Technical College of China Assoc Prof Dr Chen Jiang Sheng, President of Malaysia-China Cross-Border E-commerce Association Yap Keong Foon and former Project Initiator of Airasia Online Megastore Andy Leang shared their valuable expertise and experiences with the fellow participants.

Among the titles of the talk delivered on the second day were “Creating e-Commerce Millionaire in Chaoshan Technical School, China”, “Creating RM1.5 Million within 15 minutes” and “Wow User Experience and Analytics at Its Best” by Dr Chen, Yap and Leang respectively.

The highlight of Dr Chen’s talk was on how to be a “student boss” while the students are still studying. Dr Chen shared about the school’s educational model and the amazing techniques on how to be a successful entrepreneur by using e-Commerce and marketing skills. He said, “To date, the students from the International Education Institute of Chaoshan Vocational and Technical College of China has successfully established a total of 48 e-Commerce companies while they were still in school. We are proud to say that there were around 89 mainstream media in China that have come to interview the Institute of Entrepreneurship of the College. As of today, the College has already produced more than 20 student millionaires since 2014.”

The course ended with interactive Q&A sessions held for both days as well as a group photography session with the participants to commemorate the meaningful event.
