UTAR warmly welcomed the visitors from the National Taipei University of Education (NTUE) at Sungai Long Campus on 7 July 2017. Attending on behalf of NTUE were its President Prof Dr Shin-Jen Chang and the Division of International Affairs Director Ya-Hui Wang.
Receiving the visitors on behalf of UTAR were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Institute of Management and Leadership Development Director cum Division of Community and International Networking Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Faculty of Creative Industries Dean Dr David Tneh Cheng Eng, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Yong Thian Khok, Department of Early Childhood Studies Head Jamela Begam Binti Oli Muhamad, and tutor Lee Churn Shin.
Before the discussion, a corporate video of UTAR and NTUE were presented to both parties to enhance the communicationand collaboration. After a brief introduction of both universities, the meeting continued with a general discussion regarding staff and student exchange programme, study tour programme, and others. Various issues and some possible collaboration were also discussed, considering the views of both sides with the benefit of the students always at the forefront.
Prof Chang expressed her interest in collaborating with UTAR and said, “I have been the principal of NTUE for five years, and this is the first time I have come to visit a university in Malaysia. I sincerely believe that we could have an excellent cooperation through a better communication and I hope this will provide an opportunity for our students to gain an international perspective, as they are facing challenges of development in the 21st century.”
With the history over 120 years, NTUE is the oldest and one of the most prestigious universities in Taiwan. Established in 1895, the university has been a cradle for kindergarten special education and elementary school teacher. It has also been entrusted by the Ministry of Education on various national projects such as cooperative learning and mobile learning. The alumni include their current education Minister, school principals, legendary artists and composers.
The visit ended with a student exchange agreement signing, followed by an exchange of souvenirs.
