LED Fiesta

It was a reminisce of a parent’s love towards their children that inspired members of the Computer Society to organise the LED Fiesta 2017, held from 7 to 8 July at the Kampar Campus.

The objective was to remind the visitors of the filial love and hence the theme ‘Parents’ Day’. The organisers hope the exhibition would be a venue where families can come and spend time together as they enjoy the exhibition.

Although LED is the abbreviation for light emitting diode, LED in this exhibition also stands for “Love Enable Dreams”, which meant to tell the visitors of the importance of love for people to achieve their dreams, similar to the portrayal of a parent’s love, which is able to help one go through the time of difficulties.

UTAR, with its pillar of education, Virtue and Morality, also reminds students to not only excel in studies but to also be a virtuous person and remember their filial duty to their parents. “Students, who have left home to pursue their studies in distant locations, spent only a little time with their families. Important celebrations, such as Parents’ Day, parents’ birthdays, Fathers’ Day, Mothers’ Day, are often not celebrated. Hence with this event, parents and their children are able to come together and spend time with each other,” said Organising Chairperson Lim Xun Yu.

The exhibition featured LED-decorated items, such as the 10,000 paper roses, 400 lanterns, a pair of wings and a wooden piano, handmade by the committee members, dedicated to parents as a sign of appreciation towards their parents’ love and blessings.

Another highlight of the exhibition was the 15 handmade mannequins, which were also lit with LEDs and carried specific messages to remind visitors of the small household chores they could help with when they are at home. Real life stories experienced in each family were the inspiration behind the creation of the mannequins.

At the exhibition, visitors were also entertained with flash mobs, LED diabolo, live bands, sand art, food carnival, fashion street, photo booth and performance by international artist Yoga Lin (林宥嘉).
