Anti Dadah mural painting project, initiated by the Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Sungai Long with the cooperation of Global Art Sungai Long, was conducted at SJK (C) Bandar Sungai Long from 25 June to 26 June 2017.

The first mural painting project was held in December last year and the painting was made on the main front wall of the school building.

As a part of community service, the project aimed at developing students’ creativeness, leadership and communication skills as well as creating the awareness of drug abuse for the school students.

Ongoing mural painting activities

The project saw the participation of 23 students and its activities included sketching, drawing, painting and finishing touch-up. Sketching and drawing were mainly executed by the student project committees which were led by the Committee Chairperson Tan Thay Kar, under the guidance of Global Art Sungai Long owner Amanda Siew.

On the other hand, the collaborating organising committee comprised of CFS senior lecturer Teen Soh Hong, Liang Chooi Ling and Ngo Siau Woon hold the advisory roles to ensure the accomplishment of the work tasks in a timely and orderly manner and also in charge of the overall coordination of the project. Another three CFS lecturers who actively participated in this project were Foo Heng Yen, Amelia Chiang Kar Mun and Lee Cin Dee.

The completed murals

Overall, the activities were completed on schedule and orderly manner. The school and Amanda were very proud of the commitment extended by UTAR lecturers and students and they hope to collaborate more projects in the future.

Since its official opening in March 2016, SJK (C) Bandar Sungai Long currently accommodates about 1,200 primary students from Year One to Year Four. It has so far received new applications of another 500 Year One students for the following year. The school is striving hard to keep up with the fast pace of becoming a full-fledged primary school in another year when they will have students for all standards, which is from Year One to Year Six.
