Photography session among staff and students
Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) fourth year medical students organised the annual Chinese New Year Celebration which was held at the Block KA South Lobby on 8 February 2017. The celebration intended to forge a closer relationship between staff and students.
FMHS Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng gave a welcoming speech and remarked, “Tonight is a night for the medical students to show off their talents.” The speech was followed by the singing of the national anthem.
Different performances were showcased throughout the night such as Chinese fan dance and a musical performance titled “I’m Home” which revolved around a grandmother and her grandson who long to reunite during Chinese New Year but are faced with obstacles. Besides that, there was also a video skit titled “CNY then vs. CNY now” which depicted the differences of Chinese New Year celebrations back in the olden days compared to modern days.
An appreciation video for those who had represented the faculty for the Medical Inter-Varsity Games (MIVG), which highlighted the medical students’ athleticism, was played before the tossing of Yee Sang. This was followed by a bountiful buffet dinner.
The night continued with more fun-filled and enjoyable performances prepared by the fourth year medical students who performed hip-hop, torch light and Bollywood dances. In the Chap Goh Meh games, students and staff played the game of Dare or Dare, as well as the ping pong ball transferring game using chopsticks and spoons.
