Dato’ Nolee delivering her speech

It was a “wow” press conference for 204 Public Relations (PR) students who organised the WOW Kampar press conference on 20 February 2017 at the Grand Kampar Hotel to announce the commencement of the WOW Kampar festival, which will take place for three days from 24 to 26 March 2017.  

Present at the press conference were State Tourism, Arts and Culture Committee Chairman Yang Berhormat Dato’ Nolee Ashilin binti Mohammed Radzi, Kampar District Council (MDKpr) President Yang Dipertua Khairul Amir bin Mohamad Zubir, UTAR Faculty of Arts and Social Science (FAS) Dean Dr Alia Azalea and WOW Kampar Organising Chairperson Chan Shu Ting.

With the highly anticipated event expected to draw over 100,000 people, Dato’ Nolee foresees this festival as being a thrust to promote the “Visit Perak 2017” programme, further boosting the local tourism industry of Perak. “The festival will be a good platform to attract global tourists to visit Perak’s popular destinations, such as the Tempurung Cave, Tanjung Tualang and Perak Agrotourism Resort, while also serving as an initiative to strengthen Perak’s domestic market,” she said.

Together with support from MDKpr which goes back to previous PR campaigns, the PR students have been actively organising numerous community activities. Khairul believes that this festival will inspire positive synergies with various parties, and also act as a gateway to further extend UTAR–MDKpr collaboration, and even with other educational institutions in Kampar as well.

In the same light, Dr Alia mentioned that the festival expands the opportunity for private players to collaborate closely with the public sector. With the festival being part of the PR students’ UAMP2033 Event Management subject, Dr Alia also believes that it will nurture them with the right skill set to be competent PR practitioners in the future.

The press conference then proceeded to an interactive Q&A session with the media representatives, which later saw Dato’ Nolee presenting tokens of appreciation to Tourism Perak Management Berhad Event Manager Suhazliza Yahaya and Huges Group Executive Director and Grand Kampar Hotel Representative Hew Fen Yee for their constant support for the festival, as well as to members of the media, which included Radio Televisyen Malaysia and PerakFM Perak Broadcasting Deputy Director Tuan Haji Zamzie Mohd Zain, Celcom Axiata Berhad Sales Manager Khairul Sani Badarudin, Navi J Production Chief Executive Director Jacky Hong and FAS Department of Journalism Head Edwin Michael a/l N. Muniandy.

Marking the end of the press conference was an award presentation to the students for their hard work, efficiency and success in organising the WOW Kampar festival. In recognition of that, Dato’ Nolee presented them with the Award of Event Excellence for Private Higher Education Institution, which Chan received on behalf of them.

'WOW Kampar' festival is an event jointly organised by the Kampar District Council (MDKpr) and Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. With official support from the Perak State Government and Grand Kampar Hotel as its Strategic Partner, the festival represents a joint effort to promote the best of Kampar to everyone through its five main components, namely trade shows, sports and recreation activities, community relations programmes, entrepreneurship activities, and edutainment activities. Highlights of the festival will include an exhibition on the town’s mining history at the Kinta Tin Mining Museum, sports competitions, a food bazaar promoting local food, and blood and hair donation campaigns.
