The Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) and Department of
Consultancy and Commercialisation (DCC) organised an entrepreneurial
talk titled “Catwalk Guru Malaysia - The journey” on 2 November 2017 at
Sungai Long Campus. The talk featured Malaysia Supermodel Search Founder
Benjamin Toong. Present at the talk were lecturers, students and staff.
Throughout the talk, Toong spoke about his experience on starting up a
new venture and the possible challenges for a start-up. He also shared
life experiences and how he overcame the life obstacles in the hope to
inspire the young generation to follow their dreams and to prepare them
to face the reality. Some of the topics which complemented the
entrepreneurial talk were shared such as body language, communication
skills, facial expression and proper body posture.
“You can’t stop the challenges and obstacles which are ahead of you but
you can choose not to give up. Get back up and help yourself. Nothing
can stop you from being successful when you are passionate about the
things you do.” He added, “Keep on dreaming, never stop at one dream and
chase your dreams!”
Benjamin Toong is the foremost catwalk guru of Malaysia. He made his
first wave nationwide when he was the head model trainer for the Ford
Models Supermodels of the World Malaysia competition in 2009, and
notably for his subsequent training stints for the Miss Malaysia
Universe and Miss Astro Chinese International pageants. He is also known
for being able to command a runway in his signature 11 inch heelless
high heels and widely recognised for his roles in founding a renowned
fashion and beauty academy and creating the online reality programme
Runway Supermodel search. He is the founder for Runway Productions by
CG. He has 15 years of experience as a runway trainer, fashion stylist
and runway choreographer. He was also the co-host for Miss Universe
Malaysia and Asia Model Festival Face of Malaysia. For his achievement,
he was crowned as Malaysia’s catwalk guru in 2010.
The talk led to a Q&A session with the speaker, followed by a
photography session before the event ended.
