The Department of Student Affairs Counselling & Guidance Unit and
Faculty Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) Centre for Cancer Research
in collaboration with National Population and Family Development Board
(LPPKN), National Cancer Council (MAKNA) and The Art of Living organised
the Stress-Free Campaign 2017 at Sungai Long Campus on 31 October 2017.
Themed at ‘One Life:- Live It and Love It’, the event featured various
activities such as talks, counselling session, exhibitions, workshops
and health screening with the aim of increasing the awareness of stress
and its relation to health.
In conjunction with the stress event, the LPPKN offered free health
screening such as free check for Body Mass Index (BMI), Cholesterol and
Glucose Test, Blood Pressure Test, Pap smear and Breast Screening along
with the HPV Vaccination.
The event featured a talk which focuses on the “Human papillomavirus
(HPV) Infection and Cervical Cancer” by the FMHS Head of Population
Medicine Department Dr Khine Pwint Phyu. Dr Khine explained several
topics such as the overview of cervical cancer, symptoms of the disease,
types of HPV, treatment option, types of vaccines and HPV test in men.
FMHS lecturer N.S. Jagjit Kaur spoke on “Cervical Cancer Prevention”
which aimed to raise public awareness on the preventable factors of
cervical cancer. “It is important for hospital staff to learn how to
communicate with the patient and care for the patient physically and
emotionally,” said Jagjit. The talk was followed by a sharing session
from a cancer survivor. The sharing session aimed to help the public to
understand the life of a cancer patient and raise public awareness on
cervical cancer.
