The Sustainable Development Club and Community Service Society
collaborated with the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) to organise
the “Community Awareness Campaign” at Sungai Long Campus on 02 November
2017.
Themed at ‘On the Journey towards the Future We Create’, the campaign
featured various activities such as Road Safety Talk, Dengue Awareness
Campaign, Seeds of Hope exhibition and DIY corner with recyclable items.
In conjunction with the campaign, Jabatan
Keselamatan Jalan Raya (JKJR) Negeri
Selangor and Grand Saga conducted a talk on road
safety. The talk was presented by Director of JKJR Negeri Selangor
Mohammad Fakhri Mansor. With the aim to increase public awareness
regarding road safety, the talk focused on three important elements,
namely cognitive knowledge, skills and attitude. The aforementioned
elements, according to Fakhri, are vital in order to practice safe
driving.
During the talk, Fakhri mentioned that road accident was the fifth most
common cause of death in Malaysia. He also highlighted the main reasons
accident took place, which were due to the driver’s ignorance and
carelessness. Besides demonstrating the effect of injuries using
different type of helmets he also played some videos for the
participants to show how accidents normally take place.
A quiz session was held at the end of the talk and participants who
answered correctly walked away with prizes such as helmet, safety vest
and pendrive holder. Before the talk adjourned, DSA (Sungai Long Campus)
Assistant Manager Lam Lai Yuet presented a token of appreciation to
Fakhri.
