Visit by National Taiwan University

UTAR representatives with NTU delegates

UTAR warmly welcomed the visitors from the National Taiwan University (NTU) at Sungai Long Campus on 7 October 2017. Attending on behalf of NTU were its Vice President for Academic Affairs-cum-Center for General Education Director Prof Dr Kuo Hung-Chi, College of Engineering Dean-cum-Center for Southeast Asia Education Director Prof Dr Chen Wen-Chang, Division of Undergraduate Academic Affairs Director Horng Tai-Hsiung, together with delegates from NTU, NTU Alumni Association and Malaysia Taiwan Education Center.

Receiving the visitors on behalf of UTAR were UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Institute of Management and Leadership Development Director-cum-Division of Community and International Networking Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, and Faculty of Accountancy and Management Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Chong Shyue Chuan.

Prof Ewe and Prof Kuo gave a brief introduction of both universities and continued the meeting with a general discussion regarding staff and student exchange programme, study tour programme, and various possible collaborations, which took into account the views of both sides with the benefit of the students always at the forefront.

Prof Ewe remarked, “UTAR always seeks to provide quality education for our students from multiple aspects through exchange programmes, industrial training and soft skills development to broaden their global perspectives, learn from international peers and experts, and become an all-rounded student.”

Prof Kuo expressed his interest in collaborating with UTAR and said, “I believe the collaboration between colleges or faculties in the university will bring greater benefit to the students. I am very glad that NTU and UTAR share common interests in some research areas and similar ideas in promoting international exposure for students. I look forward to when both parties can collaborate on common ground to further expand academic interactions as well as provide students with greater learning opportunities.

The discussion ended on a high note with a souvenir presentation.
