Participants with the Quality Coils Industries staff at the end of the trip
The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Kampar Campus organised an educational trip to the mosquito coils manufacturing company, Quality Coils Industries Sdn Bhd at Mambang Diawan, Kampar on 7 October 2017.
The trip, which consisted of 33 students and accompanied by CFS staff, namely Deputy Director for Student Affairs and Development (Kampar Campus) Lim Khiew Loon and lecturers Yip Mei Theen, Hazel Lim Hui Ling, Ooi Siew Fong, Ho Wai Yew, Lim Kun Yin, Chung Zi Ling, Bhargkavi Pari, Nur Shazwani binti Ahmad Azam, Noor Aina Farhana binti Zulkifli and Yuvashini Salvamani, was aimed to enhance students’ understanding regarding the manufacturing process and management system of the company.
Upon arrival, Human Resource Department Ket Wai Loon warmly welcomed the participants and introduced the company’s profile, organisational chart, factory and laboratory facilities, products, services and clients. From the briefing, the participants learnt about the company’s biggest markets which were Japan and Korea because Japanese and Koreans prefer to use mosquito coils due to its environmentally friendly nature, as compared to aerosols.
After the briefing session, the participants were brought to visit the factory and had a few company staff present to explain the processes involved in making the mosquito coils. It begins with dry blending, followed by kneading, extruding, stamping, drying, packing, and finally the quality assurance checking.
Apart from visiting the factory, the participants also enjoyed the sharing session conducted by General Manager Wong Hon Kai and Finance Manager Joyce Ho Yoke See. Wong, who spoke about his managerial duties, mentioned that he is often on overseas trip to meet and promote their products to potential or existing clients. Ho, on the other hand, shared about the preferable qualities that they look for in a graduate and highlighted to the participants of the appropriate behaviour that interviewee should have when attending the interview session. The sharing session also invited positive questions from the participants, which saw an interactive Q&A session.
Overall, the trip benefitted the participants with lessons on the nature of the business, manufacturing operations, management structure and practices, and the production processes involved to complete a product.
At the end of the trip, Lim presented a token of appreciation to Quality Coils Industries Sdn. Bhd. Executive Director Andrew Yeoh Chin Yek and thanked them for their hospitality.
