Collaboration with Jusfoun Big Data Co

Delegates from the three parties

UTAR, Jusfoun Big Data Co (Jusfoun) (九次方大数据) and Malaysia Big Data Platform Sdn Bhd signed a tripartite cooperation agreement during an official meeting in Beijing, China on 1 September 2017.

Aimed to build the channel of transnational big data talent cooperation exchange, cultivate international high-tech big data talent, and in response to the “one belt one road” initiative, the three parties have reached the consensus to set up the Southeast Asian Big Data Centre in Malaysia. The Centre will also introduce elective courses for current degree programmes in the country.

UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik, Founder of Jusfoun Wang Sanshou and Director of Malaysia Big Data Platform Sdn Bhd Sun Wende signed the agreement respectively. The UTAR Vice President for R&D and Commercialisation Prof Ir Dr Lee Sze Wei was also present at the meeting.

In recent years, with global application and popularisation of big data, Malaysia has participated actively in the big data industry and considered big data as a national infrastructure resource. Malaysia plans to transform the country into a digital ecosystem by the year 2020, and drive the nation’s digital economy by using big data analysis. Apart from these, big data talent training has also become an important part of education for the Malaysian government. Therefore, the Multimedia Development Corporation has launched an initiative aimed to enhance big data thinking of the nation through education and enhance the supply of talent to support the nation’s big data ecosystem.

The main purpose of the visit to China by the UTAR team was to work together with China’s top big data company to nurture talents to meet international professional standards.

Prof Chuah said, “China is now Malaysia’s largest trading partner. The development of big data industry in China is conspicuous and I believe that the future potential of development of big data is unlimited under the initiative of ‘one belt one road’. Malaysia looks forward to being parallel with China to apply the value of big data in the development of national economic innovation. As an educational institution, UTAR wishes to cooperate with China to establish a big data exchange and communication avenues to achieve cooperation and mutual benefit in the field of big data.”

He added, “Jusfoun as China’s leading big data asset operator, has a strong technical capital and rich practical experience in big data, and has a forward-looking vision on China and international big data market. Align with UTAR, both have the same awareness of the importance of big data talent training and we also wish to carry out a long-term cooperative relationship with Jusfoun, to work together to promote the big data talent training and growth of both countries.”

Wang said, “Talent is the core factors of production in the big data industry development of all countries. We need to achieve talent-driven development of big data industry and break the bottleneck of big data talent in order to achieve the development of national economies by leaps and bounds.  Over the years, Jusfoun has been entrenched in China’s big data industry and understood the importance of talent for the industry. It has also committed to work with China’s top universities to promote the development of Industrial production and research integration, to absorb talent to conduct innovation and research for the big data industry. Through this collaboration with UTAR, we can promote the objective of internationalizing big data talent training to enhance the use of big data in Malaysia for economic and cultural exchanges.”

Based on the tripartite cooperation agreement and pooling of resources, the three parties will jointly carry out big data related cooperation projects, including international cooperation, talent exchanges and joint research. Besides the establishment of the Southeast Asia Big Data Centre, there will also be a big data industry education fund to encourage and nurture student to carry out big data related research. This will promote cooperation and communication in the big data industry between Malaysia and China in the future.
