The Centre for Foundation Studies (CFS) of Sungai Long Campus and UTAR Karate-Do Club jointly organised a Self-defence Workshop on 24 August 2017 at the Sungai Long Campus.
Present at the workshop were CFS lecturers, which included the Event Chairperson Nurul Afidah binti Mohd Sebry, Secretary Norkhalidah binti Jamali, Karate-Do Club Adviser Nur Amalina Hafiza binti Ahmad Nizar and Amelia Chiang Kar Mun.
The workshop aimed to equip the students with basic self-defence technique, boost students’ self-confidence and train students to have stronger instinct and to be more aware of their surroundings. By learning the basic techniques of self-defence, students will be able to prepare themselves for dangerous and unforeseen circumstances such as robbery, snatch thief and assault that occur commonly among the adults and youths.
Taught by Coach Yip Chee Loy, the participants learnt how to defend themselves using parts of their body such as elbows, knees and head. Apart from understanding these key body parts, Yip also explained an attacker's vulnerable body parts and taught the participants to defend themselves against the three most common attacks.
The insightful workshop then ended with a group photograph with all the committee members, Coach Yip and the participants.
