Go As One Carnival

In conjunction with the Hari Merdeka 2017 celebration, the Department of Student Affairs (DSA) of Sungai Long Campus collaborated with the Vice President Office of Student Development and Alumni Relations and Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences (FMHS) to organise the “Go As ONE Carnival 2017” at Sungai Long Campus on 12 August 2017.  The carnival was supported by campus partner Monsta and media partner NTV7 and 8TV.

The carnival kicked-off to a vibrant start with a dazzling performance by the Wushu Club. The students dazzled the audience with their high-flying kicks and splits to the beats of the Chinese drums. The students put up a stunning opening performance, which enthralled the audience of both young and old alike.

The Fun Zone in the carnival was a place where the participants got a chance to play some modern and traditional games, and Go as One Zone showcased original and creative talents in relation to the Malaysian culture.

The carnival also honoured “Orikami”, a concept initiated by the entertainment industry to urge Malaysians to support the local productions, which included the support towards the creation of arts, cultural, TV, film and other formats of creativity by Malaysians. “Orikami” is a blend of “Original” and “Kami”. Besides, the participants also grabbed the chance to meet with the actors of NTV7 19th Anniversary Drama “The Memoirs of Ma Jie” during the carnival.

Another zone in the carnival was the Health and Wellness Zone, a joint effort with the FMHS to promote a healthy lifestyle amongst the community. The students from Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery, Bachelor of Chinese Medicine, Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Physiotherapy came together as one to bring the community various healthy lifestyle packages such as blood test, Tui Na, Acupuncture, foot care, and health screening tests with FMHS staff and lecturers.

The Traditional and Modern Games zone brought fun and laughter to the people from all walks of life. The participants had a chance to experience some old-fashioned childhood games like the Congkak, Chapteh, Hopscotch, Five Stones and many more which brought smiles to the older generation who had played all these games when they were younger.  It certainly brought back lots of sweet memories for some, but not forgetting the younger generation as they had a chance to play some modern games as well.

Besides all the various zones, the primary and kindergarten school children were also not left out. They were given a chance to participate in the Drawing and Colouring Contest. The children ranging from 4 to 12 years old were divided into three different categories. The prizes were sponsored by Projek 57, a non-political and non-partisan social enterprise, committed to building unity and hope in Malaysia and also by Pastreology, an online based home-baked patisserie that specialises in various premium tarts and cookies.
