UTAR and Fo Guang Shan (FGS) Education Centre signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Fo Guang Shan Dong Zen Temple, Jenjarom Selangor on 10 September 2017 in conjunction with the 2017 Fo Guang Shan Malaysia Yogacara Ulka-Mukha Dharma Service-cum-Dana to the Maha Sangha event.
Signing on behalf of the parties were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik and FGS Education Centre Director Venerable Miao Hao. The signing was witnessed by UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies Dean Assoc Prof Dr Chong Siou Wei and Consultant of FGS Education Centre Venerable Jue Cheng.
Also present at the signing ceremony were FGS Education Centre Director Venerable Ru Yin, FGS Education Centre Legal Adviser Tan Ai Li, UTAR Institute of Chinese Studies Deputy Dean for R&D and Postgraduate Programmes-cum-Centre for Chinese Studies Chairperson Assoc Prof Dr Wong Wun Bin, and Division of Community and International Networking Director-cum-Institute of Management and Leadership Development Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu.
The MoU served as a platform to facilitate the collaboration between the two parties in teaching and joint research as well as the exchange of ideas through joint seminars, conferences and workshops. The focus of the collaboration was in the areas of Buddhist studies in the Malaysian context.
In Prof Chuah’s speech, he mentioned, “This shall be a significant collaboration as UTAR is not only passing on the information of new technologies to the students but we shall also help the students to build their morality.”
“Through this collaboration, we hope to train more experts in the teaching and research of Buddhism in Malaysia,” said Venerable Jue Cheng.
