UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat visited the Guizhou Universities in China, namely Guizhou Minzu University (GZMU), Guizhou University, Guizhou Normal University (GZNU), and Guizhou University of Finance and Economics (GUFE) on 13, 14 and 15 September 2017 respectively, in order to enhance mutual understanding and to promote further cooperation.

On 13 September, Prof Ewe was warmly welcomed by GZMU Vice President Prof Wei Wei and her team. In order to have an in-depth discussion, both parties exchanged an historical overview of the university, the current development and the implementation of international programmes of the university. In Prof Wei’s speech, she expected both sides to carry out an in-depth exchange and cooperation, to enhance the cultural exchanges between the two universities, making contributions to promote the diversified development of the students.

On the following day, Prof Ewe visited GZNU and had a meeting with the GZNU Vice President Zhao Shouying. Held in a harmonious atmosphere, a detailed discussion about the issues of student exchange, experts exchange and other projects were carried out. At the end of the discussion, both sides reached a preliminary cooperation intention. Further measures would be taken to deepen and implement the cooperation in the near future. He also took the opportunity to visit the Guiyang Big Data Exchange (GBDEx) which is the pioneer of China’s big data industry, since the beginning of its operation in 2005.

On the last day in Guizhou, Prof Ewe met with the GUFE Vice President Yang Yong. After briefly introducing the university, both sides exchanged their views on student exchanges, teaching staff visits, scientific research cooperation, and other issues. During the discussion, Yang pointed out that Malaysia is China’s largest trading partner in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region. He hope to have an extensive and in-depth cooperation with UTAR, with the belief that the effort would not only strengthen the friendship between China and Malaysia but also conducive to the international development of both universities, as it could serve as a good platform for students and teachers to improve themselves.
He also visited one of UTAR’s collaborative partners located in that province, the Guizhou University where he was warmly welcomed by Special Assistant to the President, Zhang Dalin and his team. Also, present were Dean of College of International Education Zhang Chengxia, Office of International Relations Director Hong Yun and China-ASEAN Education & Training Center Office Director Li Yan. They discussed international collaboration on study tour, student exchange, cooperation in key research areas and other educational projects.
