One of the most significant and meaningful charity events that SPC took part in was the Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan (Cina) Bandar Sungai Long Charity Bazaar 2017. Prior to the event, the SPC members worked closely with the school to discuss the required tasks, the delegation of work, floor layout, grouping, logistics, and activities to ensure the event goes as smoothly as planned. The SPC members also gathered a total of 150 UTAR students to help the Charity Bazaar 2017, with a hope that it would provide a good exposure and guidance on leadership and project management for the student helpers.

SJK (C) Bandar Sungai Long Charity Bazaar 2017 aimed to raise funds to equip the school with better infrastructure and facilities for young schoolchildren. The SPC members and student helpers began their tasks at 8am and they were guided by the school teachers to their respective booths to carry their assigned tasks. The student helpers were divided into 13 groups and a group leader was appointed for each group. The SPC members and the student helpers were very dedicated and committed to carrying out their duties.

It was heartening that some senior citizens even came in wheelchairs and parents in crutches to support this event. Children were seen enjoying the games especially the Bouncy Castle with many queuing up for their turn. Many also took part in the calligraphy competition, Kiddo Science Workshop, Clay Art handicraft, body art and photography session.

The students worked on shifts as they took turns to take time off to join the event as well. The SPC members coordinated the shifts and ensured all student helpers were given a fair amount of time for lunch break. The SPC members and lecturers also walked around to ensure the students’ welfare was taken care of.

The fundraising event was successful as it helped to motivate others to join community work, which is in line with the university’s vision to contribute back to the society.
