Fundraising through art

UTAR students visited Home for the Angels Care Centre in Semenyih, Selangor on 9 March 2018 to conduct an art workshop for the children at the centre.

The project, which is part of the Co-Curricular Community Project, aimed to give an exposure to the students to help those who are in need. Aside from that, it is also aimed to raise funds for the centre by selling name card holders made by the children.

The project started a few weeks prior by making the preparation. Research on the best product and material to be used was done to ensure the products are cost-effective yet able to be commercialized.

By using ethylene-vinyl acetate (EVA), the children were guided and assisted by UTAR students to create their very own custom-made name card holders during the workshop. The name card holder template was prepared earlier, so that the children can focus on decorating it the way they wanted.

The custom-decorated name card holders were later on put on sale in UTAR Sungai Long Campus for two days, with 50% of the profit channelled back to the Angels Care Centre.

According to the participants, the workshop was truly a success. They did not only end up fulfilling their course requirement, but also managed to produce meaningful products from scratch and give it back to the society all at the same time.
