Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) collaborated with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to organise a career talk titled “#POWERTALK” at Sungai Long Campus on 12 April 2018.
The invited speakers were Chief Risk Officer Dato’ Ir Lim Tong Kang, Vice President of Grid Division Dato’ Ir Ho Peng Choong, and Chief People Officer Dato’ Muhammad Razif Abdul Rahman. The talk aimed to introduce and disclose the career opportunities available in TNB and job scope of each division to the participants.

The two-hour talk saw the speakers taking turns to introduce the role, job scope and positions available in their respective division. Dato’ Ho, who represented the Grid Division, explained the main role and core activities of Grid Division, types of Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) substation, Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation, types of TNB power cable as well as types of TNB transmission tower. He also mentioned that there are seven different career opportunities in Grid Division, namely Substation and Diagnostic Engineer, Protection and Automation Engineer, Assistant Manager, Assistant Analyst and Profiler, Control Engineer and Generation Dispatcher, Design Engineer, and Equipment Specialist. The talk then continued with Dato’ Lim and Dato’ Muhammad Razif respectively.

TNB also introduced Young Executive Development Programme (YEDP) which aimed to train young employees to unleash and utilise their potential. At the Q&A session, they clarified that engineering graduates are not the only recruiting options but graduates from other fields like mass communication and marketing are also welcome to join the TNB.
