A talk titled “What is Entrepreneurship?” was organised by the Department of Entrepreneurship from the Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) on 29 March 2018 at the Kampar Campus. The participants had the opportunity to learn from an experienced businessman and invited speaker, Selangor Information Technology & E-Commerce Council (SITEC) Academy Director Goh Boon Peng.
With the aim to offer students a learning experience that will instil consciousness about their role in the changing world and to help them develop a strong sense of professional and social responsibility, the talk intended to increase students’ awareness on entrepreneurship. Simultaneously, it also aimed to cultivate their interests towards entrepreneurship. The talk was attended by Organising Chairperson Ng Yin Kuan, staff and students.
Goh’s experience benefitted the participants with tips to learn and understand how to start a business of their own, which included some insights on starting an e-business. He explained the how-to of starting a business and provided examples from successful startup business, such as mystartr.com. He further highlighted the importance of manpower and capitals to run and manage entrepreneurial activities. On that note, he suggested the participants to look into funding sources, such as government agencies or crowd funding, to help with the startup.
Goh also advised the participants to research on suitable products that would not only fit the demands of the market but sustain the business as well. “Starting a business has its challenges but it is important that we do extensive research and understand the market. We need to persevere and keep trying because the road to success is not about giving up when met with failures,” advised Goh.
