Wong delivering his talk
The Centre for Extension Education (CEE) in collaboration with Malaysia Mental Literacy Movement (MMLM) organised a talk titled, “How to Improve your Memory by 100% easily” at Sungai Long Campus on 8 August 2018.
Since memory is the key to learning, the talk aimed to provide the participants with some ideas and tips on improving memory easily without taking a huge effort or spending a fortune to learn certain knowledge.
Speaking at the event was Power Memory Founder Wong Wan Juin who spoke about the misperception of brain capability, the definition of memory, function of neurons in the brain, stages of memory, types of memory, memory versus creativity and tips to improve memory.
Wong said, “The theory of left-brain or right-brain dominance gives insights into how our left and right brains function differently. People who are more inclined towards the left brain is said to be better with words, sequence, logical analysis and short-term memory while people who are more inclined towards the right brain is more attracted to images, colour, rhythm, creativity, imagination, dimension and long-term memory.”
“Brain can be trained regardless of your age as everyone has great potential. We need to use both sides of our brains to improve our memory. The best investment for yourself is to train your brain because the more you train your brain, the better your memory will be,” added Wong.
Wong included several games in the session to engage the participants to positively influence their brain health. Some of the games were Random Words Game, Brain Coordination Game, Number Recalling Game and Name the Colours Game.
He emphasised, “There are several tips to improve your memory such as exercising, listening to music, taking appropriate breaks in between task, paying attention, engaging in brain gym and drawing mind maps. Diet plays an important role in memory improvement, so consume food like walnut, egg, soybean, corn, fish, blueberries, ginkgo, tomatoes and dark chocolate to increase your ability to memorise.”
