Urban Housing and Future Life

Faculty of Accountancy and Management’s Building and Property Management programme organised a talk on urban housing and future life at Sungai Long Campus on 25 August 2018. Presenting the talk was National Cheng Kung University Research Center for Energy Technology and Strategy Department of Urban Planning Prof Chen Yen-Jong who is also an external examiner for the Building and Property Management programme.

In his presentation, Prof Chen said, “The biggest problem in the city is the relation between income per household and housing price among several areas such as Taipei, Kaoshiung, Tainan, Tokyo, Beijing, Shanghai, Delhi and Chicago.”

He said, “We can measure the three factors of housing affordability known as the house pricing, mortgage and wealth of the buyer. We need to consider the location of the housing area, the lot size, bank interest rate, bank loan, government subsidies and household income,” as he explained on housing affordability through a case study.

Speaking on smart city, he said, “The challenges of providing the essentials within a smart city are the living quality, capacity of the city and job opportunities.” He also mentioned, “The world’s most important challenges revolves around the areas of energy, environment, economy, water, food, health, peace and security while the top ten problems of humanity in the coming 50 years are poverty, disease, education, democracy and population, which are all related to urbanisation.”
