Raising the recognition of TCM

The members of CMCTCM

A group of eight China-Malaysia Centre for Traditional Chinese Medicine (CMCTCM) members from Guangxi University of Chinese Medicine (GXUCM) visited Sungai Long Campus from 1 August 2018 to 8 August 2018. The participating members were the First Affiliated Hospital of GXUCM Paediatrician Wang Lining, Physician Wei Lijun, Oncologist Rong Zhen, Ruikang Hospital Affiliated to GXUCM Physician Liu Jianhang, TuiNa Orthopedics Physician Jiang Wen, GXUCM’s Faculty of Acupuncture and TuiNa Prof Xu Minghui, Pre-clinical School of GXUCM Prof Yang Liqiang, and Campus Visit Coordinator Jiang Tuo.

The eight-day programme featured various activities such as medical consultation on a voluntary basis, talk on the culture of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and Guangxi TCM’s training course. By imparting TCM knowledge, clinical guidance, serving the local community and promoting the culture of TCM, these activities allow more people to benefit from the Chinese medicine, thereby increasing its recognition.

Participants attending Guangxi TCM’s training course

Over 70 Malaysian Chinese medicine practitioners participated in the Guangxi TCM’s training course. The course offered a series of talks with topics such as “TCM treatment of asthma and special physique cough”, “Prevention and treatment of hypertension with TCM”, “Diagnosis and treatment of cervical spondylosis”, and “The relationship between pelvis and pain in the waist and leg”. The concept and culture of TCM were explained throughout the event, and this benefited participants especially with the experiences and knowledge shared by the experts.

CMCTCM was established in 2017 with a joint effort of UTAR and GXUCM. Since its inception, GXUCM has sent 23 experts to Malaysia and has successfully organised 20 educational courses for local TCM practitioners and students, nine TCM culture lectures as well as two health consultation activities for the public. On the other hand, a total of 67 students and practitioners were sent to China for TCM training.
