Following the completion of three novels in 2016, Faculty of Business and Finance (FBF) Accounting student Lee Ching Kai kept his creative juices flowing and released three more books this year.

The latest fruits of Lee’s labour, these books, titled “Horror Land: The Board Game of Death”, “Battle of the Universe” and “Era of New Solstice” respectively, are a reflection of his creativity and versatility as a fecund writer. “My favourite themes are Romance and Fantasy. However, I am able to write a book of the genre of Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Romance, Horror, Thriller, Action, or Adventure, making myself a multi-styled writer,” said the Accounting student.

Citing best-selling fiction novelists such as J.K. Rowling, J.R.R. Tolkien, Stephen King and kindred who have turned their masterpieces into major motion pictures as his inspiration, Lee is certainly determined to follow their footsteps. “I’m truly inspired by these famous authors. Besides that, it is also a long-term life goal of mine to showcase my work to the movie industry and to turn them into motion pictures, be it by the movie directors/producers from Malaysia, overseas, or even, the Hollywood. In fact, pushing my work onto the Hollywood big screen is one of my driving ambitions,” Lee explained, adding that he wants to be different from the rest. He strongly believes that creativity and innovation are the keys to limitless possibilities, and he refrains from staying conservative or letting things to become as conventional as how they have always been, as seeing things through different lenses may sometimes create wonders.

While Lee seems to be the maverick among his fellow university mates, his life as a university student is just like any other UTARians’ with the exception that he needs to juggle his commitment as a university student and passion as a writer. On doing so, Lee shared that the discipline in completing his academic-related assignments within a stipulated time and consistency in expressing his creativity through various channels are keys to striking a balance. “Expressing creativity in all available platforms, such as writing, photography, animation, public speaking and so on has become part of my life, as it makes my life fulfilling. I prioritise my academics by allocating some time every single day to engage in study-related works, and I spend the rest of my time to brush up my creativity skills and to express my creativity in writing,” he told.

“Readers can get inspired by my patience in writing such books, and they could gain some knowledge in English language and contexts. Besides that, my peers can get motivated to do something different from the rest,” Lee mentioned, hoping that his unorthodox life of wearing different hats will encourage other students to also pursue their passions in life.

When asked about the availability of his new books, Lee announced, “My latest (sixth) book, ‘Era of New Solstice’, co-authored with Dr. Lim Wooi Khai from Klinik De Era, would be able to be purchased in bookstores in the near future.” According to him, his writing career will not end with the completion of his studies but instead, will open a new chapter for him to explore things as a full-fledged writer, besides traversing into other familiar fields such as photography and cinematography.

Lee’s books can be purchased worldwide from Amazon.com and other e-websites in hardcover, softcover, or Kindle versions. The former three books are available at both the UTAR Main Library and Mary KUOK Pick Hoo Library. Click here to read the synposes of Lee’s books. Besides being a prolific writer of his age, Lee has also won several inter-faculty public speaking competitions. He has also obtained an amount of awards and recognitions in Toastmasters International such as the Triple Crown Award and the Advanced Communicator Gold Award from the United States. He also won several Club, Area, and Division Level public speaking contests. On top of those, Lee had also dabbled in martial arts as reflected by his achievements as the District, State, and National champion in various Taekwondo Tournaments.
