Enhancing cooperation with ZJPC

Delegates from Zhejiang Pharmaceutical College (ZJPC), China paid a visit to the Sungai Long Campus on 19 December 2018.

Visiting on behalf of ZJPC were its Deputy Secretary of Party Committee and Researcher Yang Junjie, Director of Finance Department Assoc Prof Zhou Yusheng, Associate Dean of Chinese Medicine College and Assistance Researcher Sun Wenzhu, Associate Dean of Medical Devices College and Assistance Researcher Zhou Yan, and coordinator Cafu Wong. They were warmly welcomed by UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng, Division of Community and International Networking Director Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn and Clinical TCM Programme Head Judick Yap Wei Hoong.

The meeting commenced with Prof Ewe’s talk on UTAR’s background and its campuses. It was subsequently followed by a presentation of corporate video so as to provide the visiting delegates with a deeper understanding of the significant milestones and development achieved by the University. Sharing his views at the meeting, Prof Ewe explained UTAR’s connectivity and partnerships with other universities and suggested some potential areas of collaborations to be considered that would benefit both students and staff, especially in the medical field. “We always encourage our students to broaden their horizons through the interaction with foreign students,” he said, adding that the exposure can benefit students in many ways. 

Yang, on the other hand, expressed his gratitude to UTAR for the warm welcome. After sharing about the College profile, he explained the specialities offered by ZJPC such as Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Engineering, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Food Science and Medical Equipment. According to him, some of the common areas could be further discussed in order to pave the way for experts, researchers and students from both sides to undertake collaborative research and academic exchanges.

The discussion came to an end after the presentation of souvenirs and a photograph session.
