MoU with Hokuriku University

UTAR and Hokuriku University officially signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) at Sungai Long Campus on 26 January 2018.

Signing on behalf of the parties were UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik and Hokuriku University President-cum-Board of Trustees Chairman Prof Ogura Tsutomu.

Also present at the ceremony were Hokuriku University Executive Managing Director Zhou Hang, International Exchange Centre Deputy Manager Justin Tobias, UTAR Vice President for Internationalisation and Academic Development Prof Ir Dr Ewe Hong Tat, Institute of Management and Leadership Development Director-cum-Division of Community and International Networking Director Prof Dr Cheng Ming Yu, Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science’s (LKC FES) Student Development and Industrial Training Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Department of Laboratory Management and Safety Administration Head Dr Lim Jee Hock, Institute of Chinese Studies’ R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Tee Boon Chuan, Faculty of Accountancy and Management’s Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Dr Hen Kai Wah, Faculty of Creative Industries’ R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Dr Loo Hong Chuang, and Centre for Extension Education Director Lim Guat Yen.

Prof Chuah welcomed Prof Tsutomu and gave an overview of the history and introduction of UTAR. He expressed his wishes to foster and deepen both sides’ collaboration through an agreement in various areas such as exchange of student and teacher, implementation of joint research and research conferences as well as other projects that could strengthen the cooperative relation of both universities. He said, “I hope that the MoU that we are signing today will mark the beginning of our long and fruitful collaboration.”

Prof Tsutomu, on the other hand, expressed his pleasure in forging a strong and comprehensive partnership with UTAR. He pointed out the possibilities of collaborations between the two universities and look forward to the programme that could benefit both sides’ students.

Established in April 1975, Hokuriku University is a private university located in the traditional Japanese city of Kanazawa, Ishikawa, Japan. It was originally founded as a single-department college of Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences under the guiding principles of “to love nature, respect life, and to seek the truth”. The university emphasises on the liberal arts and practical education as one of its education’s characteristics which allow students to be able to quickly adapt to rapid changes in society.
