Peace Loving Youth Assembly

The Peace Loving Youth Assembly was organised by the Universal Peace Federation (UPF), Lions Club of Putrajaya Royale, Sun Moon University of South Korea, Collegiate Association for the Research of Principles (CARP) and Ajar-ajar Malaysia. It was held at Sungai Long Campus on 24 January 2018.

Present at the assembly were UTAR Vice President for Student Development and Alumni Relations Prof Dr Choong Chee Keong, UPF Oversea Representative Director Yutaka Yamada, Sun Moon University Pure Love Department Dean Prof Lee Jae Il, Sun Moon University Pure Love Department Director Prof Moon Sun-Ae, Lions Club of Putrajaya Royale Centennial Charter President Dato’ Sri Dr Johny Chai, Ajar-ajar Malaysia President Lai Peng Keong, UPF Malaysia President Sudesh Balasubramaniam, Sun Moon University students, UTAR students and staff.

Yutaka Yamada said, “I’m glad that the students are entertained with the Korean culture and performances. It is important to learn how to make good decisions while you are young. You are going to create the future through good dreams with hopes. We can work together for a brighter future and peaceful society.”

“We encourage students to be involved in activities such as student exchange programme to explore and create friendship. I believe that activities enable students to practice life principles which are important for personal growth and leadership skills to make necessary positive changes within the society,” said Prof Choong in his welcome remark.

“I am proud of the progress of activities done under this Peace Loving Youth programme. This programme enabled students to learn and create new friendship and work together to become a good citizen and promote a better future,” said Prof Lee Jae Il while congratulating the students for the success of the programme.

UPF Malaysia President Sudesh gave a talk titled, “Heart leadership”. In his talk, he spoke about the leadership qualities that contribute to the sustainable goals, the paradigm shift of the heart to create a new direction in life, dual-purpose principle— Mind and Body Alignment, substance abuse, poverty and climate change. He said, “What you do in life is important in shaping the future. Do something today which makes a difference tomorrow.”

“We enjoyed the interaction with UTAR students as we learn about our cultural differences. We are also glad to explore the different places while doing community work,” said Ikeda Koichiro from Sun Moon University.

Choong Wan Yee from Ajar-ajar Malaysia said, “We offer tuition and character education initiative programme to underprivileged students. We hope these students who learn from our leadership workshop can become great future leaders.”

UTAR Community Service Society Heng Shu Ming said, “We provide a platform for students to do community and voluntary work. Our society encourages students to contribute back to the society.”

“The opposite of love is fear, for love is complete and it casts out the fear. We need to cultivate peace within ourselves and family for a better nation. I hope this programme can be continued for many years to come as we learn to do more humanitarian services,” said Dato’ Sri Johny Chai during the closing remark.
