The Student Representative Council (SRC) hosted a Chinese New Year (CNY) celebration on 9 February 2018 at the Sungai Long Campus. The celebration provided a platform for the SRC members and students to celebrate CNY among the UTAR community.

UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik said, “It is indeed an auspicious evening to see many of us gathered here to celebrate the CNY. It gives us a sense of belonging. As we are fortunate to celebrate the festive season with our friends from different races, cultures and religions, this occasion also reminds us to appreciate the beauty of diversity in our country.”

Prof Chuah added, “Despite all the achievements the university has accomplished last year, we look forward to greater improvements in the year ahead. I urge all of us, including the staff, students and alumni, to continue striving for betterment. As we celebrate the New Year, I am glad to see many UTARians are able to come together for bonding. The CNY also allows us to stay close to our family and friends. I hope you will enjoy your reunion dinner with your beloved ones and I wish all of you a Happy CNY.”

Event Chairperson Zheng Jia Jie thanked the event committee members for their contributions in making the CNY celebration a success and creating good memories for the fellow UTARians. He said, “We are able to enjoy today’s celebration because of the collective hard work of all the committee members and the support we received from the University. I wish everyone a Happy New Year.”
