MBBS CNY Celebration

Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) Year Four students from the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences (FMHS) organised a Chinese New Year (CNY) 2018 celebration dinner. It was held at Sungai Long Campus on 22 February 2018. Present at the event were FHMS Dean Emeritus Prof Dr Cheong Soon Keng, Prof Dr Jenny Parameshvara Deva, lecturers, students and staff.

The event aimed to usher the year of the dog to cultivate a real spirit of togetherness, celebrate the unity among different races and promote a harmonious relationship among staff and students.

In his welcome speech, Prof Cheong said, “Today is an important day as we gather and celebrate the CNY. Coincidently, today is also the birthday of all human beings according to the Chinese ideology. I hope everyone will enjoy this evening’s celebration and I look forward to many more gatherings to come.”

To celebrate the day of humankind, which falls on the seventh day of CNY, the organising committees prepared a special dish called Yee Sang, also known as prosperity toss which symbolises good fortune, abundance and prosperity. It was served as an appetiser for the guests.

The celebration also saw the 24-Festive Drum’s performance, which aimed to share the Malaysian’s diverse stories, traditions and experiences. The participants were also entertained throughout the night by various singing performances and dramas titled “Dynasty Yinyang”, “ABC”, “Psycho League” and “The Cinaman Dynasty”. In a spirit of unleashing the creativity and artistic talents, the students all performed to a high standard ensuring the evening’s success and they earned thunderous applause and shouts of acclamation from the audience. There were also mini-games held for the attendees to spice up the night.

“Throughout this event, I have learnt so much about working together as a team in enabling the success of tonight’s celebration. I have also gained more knowledge and understanding about the Chinese culture. Most of all, I am really grateful to witness the CNY celebration, which enabled all of us to forge a closer tie,” said one of the MBBS students B. Angeline Ananthi.
