Research agreement with Hume Cement

A research agreement was signed between UTAR and Hume Cement Sdn Bhd on 19 January 2018 at Sungai Long Campus.

Signing the agreement on behalf of the parties were Hume Cement Sdn Bhd General Manager Choi Joonho and UTAR President Ir Prof Academician Dato’ Dr Chuah Hean Teik. The signing was witnessed by Hume Cement Industries Bhd Head of Human Resources Lee Swee Chee and UTAR Institute of Postgraduate Studies and Research Director Prof Dr Faidz bin Abd Rahman. Also present at the ceremony were Hume Cement Sdn Bhd Manager in Special Projects Walter Teng Sun Lung and Head of Technical Lee Tuck Sing.

UTAR’s representatives were Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ir Dr Goi Bok Min, Student Development and Industrial Training Deputy Dean Assoc Prof Dr Lai Soon Onn, Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Dr Gulnaziya Issabayeva, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology (FEGT) R&D and Postgraduate Programmes Deputy Dean Dr Lo Po Kim, LKC FES lecturers Dr Lee Yee Ling, Dr Yew Ming Kun, Dr Lim Jee Hock, FEGT lecturer Nik Nurul-Hidayah binti Nik Yahya and Centre for Extension Education Director Lim Guat Yen.

Prof Chuah said, “Time has come for us to improve the way we operate business, not only in the commercial sector but the university as well. In order for the university to remain relevant, all of us need to work hard. Whatever we do, we must be able to contribute to the society, particularly relating to the 17 United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.  I am thankful that Hume Cement has been supporting the university and even in our student research project.”

I hope to see more outcomes and achievement from our collaboration to help the university, company and the society. The research agreement aims to work closely between the two parties to facilitate research and development areas such as innovation and develop new solutions to meet market requirements to remain relevant in the industry.
