Twenty four students from the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) participated in KPMG’s corporate citizenship initiative in the Zoo Negara Volunteer Programme. Led by FAM lecturer Dr Low Mei Peng, the students were offered first-hand experience in operating zookeepers’ tasks.
“The objective of the programme was to enable the volunteers to experience the daily works of the zookeepers. Aside from that, we wish to provide them with a better understanding of how zoo management works,” said Dr Low.
The tasks included cleaning animal enclosures and night quarters, food preparation and landscaping work. They also got the opportunity to groom some animals, namely giraffe, camels, buffalo, tapir, zebra, and emu.

The students were also given the opportunity to learn about endangered animal species and ways to conserve them. Besides, the students were given the chance to mingle and learn from KPMG professionals from the Tax and Auditing department that participated in the volunteering programme.
