Guests enjoying food and performances

A total of 204 future architects from five varsities gathered for ArchiNight Rhapsody 2018. The annual gala night was organised by the UTAR Architecture Society at Zebra Square, Kuala Lumpur on 14 July 2018. Themed “Rhapsody”, the event saw retro and fun decorations and a dress code that brought up circus and funfair ambience.

The night started off with an appreciative speech from Lee Kong Chian Faculty of Engineering and Science (LKC FES) Dean Prof Ir Dr Goi Bok Min, “On behalf of LKC FES, I would like to express my genuine gratitude to all the organising committee for making this event a success. It is indeed a great night and I am glad that all your hard works have paid off.”

Organising chairperson Ivy Chong Pei Xin said, “It was a great yet challenging experience for us because this is the first time an ArchiNight event is held outside the campus. I truly want to express my appreciation to all our honourable guests and to everyone who has participated tonight. I would also like to thank all the committee members for putting so much effort in making this event a success.”

Also present at the opening ceremony were LKC FES Deputy Dean for Student Development and Industrial Training Dr Lim Jee Hock, Department of Architecture and Sustainable Design (DASD) lecturers Tsao Khee Ern, Rahmawaty, Leong Hung Sek, Ar Soong Meow Sin and Tew Bun Teck, UTAR alumni, and participants from UTAR, Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), LimKokWing University of Creative Technology and Multimedia University (MMU).

The architectural night aimed for students to have fun, while strengthening the bonds between one another. To make it more meaningful, the students were given the opportunity to build networks with students from other universities, while enhancing their interpersonal skills and self-esteem.

The night also provided a golden opportunity for the students to gain more knowledge and exposure on the architectural industry as they associated with the alumni from the field. Among them were Client Advisor of Louis Vuitton Kuala Lumpur Starhill Lim Zi Jun and Assistant Architect in Design Collective Architects Goh Ee Xuan who gave motivational speeches to their fellow juniors.

The guests were served with scrumptious Chinese and Western buffet and lines of various spectacular performances including IDEKM, fashion show, sketch comedy and singing by Fung Jian Rong and Lee Chun Jie to make the night more memorable.

Tempting giveaways such as 4K action camera, gaming keyboard, automatic floor vacuum cleaner and handheld stabilizer were up for lucky winners in the three-round lucky draw sessions. The outfits for the night did not go unnoticed as nominated guests competed to gain votes and win mysterious prizes. The guests were also brought to their feet when the committee members performed a special flash mob dance prior to the burst of beautiful fireworks that marked the end of the night.
