The winners of M100 Challenge 2018
The Department of Alumni Relations and Placement (DARP) in collaboration with GTI Media Asia organised a competition called “M100 Challenge 2018” on 14 July 2018 at Sungai Long Campus. The competition served as a pipeline for employers to find suitable talents for their respective companies.
The competition saw the participation of 120 UTAR students and 12 companies. The students were divided into 20 teams with each consisting of six members. During the competition, the participants were required to race to 12 different stations, where challenging yet, fun-filled tasks were prepared for them. Each station was managed by the respective companies.
The tasks assigned at each station were designed to evaluate the students’ ability both mentally and physically, besides testing their IQ and EQ. It also aimed to assess the students’ soft skills such as communication and leadership skills. The games also allowed the employers to access the students’ capability to work under pressure.
“The competition used a creative approach to identify suitable talents instead of the conventional way, which is an interview. Often, employers would not be able to assess students completely in an interview. Certain attributes or qualities like leadership skills, ability to work under pressure and creativity would often be missed out in interviews. However, this competition provided an all-rounded assessment where employers were able to see and judge the students in all aspects. Before the competition begin, the students were also required to submit their curriculum vitae,” said DARP Assistant Manager Naaresh Arumugam.
A prize-giving ceremony was held at the end of the event. It saw DARP Head Foo Wai Wai and GTI Media Managing Director Isaac Hee presenting prizes to the respective winners. The first place winners walked away with RM3,000 while the second and third place winners walked away with RM2,000 and RM1,000 respectively. The fourth, fifth and sixth place winners took home RM500 each.
The 12 participating companies were Maybank, RHB Bank Bhd, Great Eastern Life Insurance (M) Bhd, SME Bank, Agrobank, SP Setia Bhd, Hartalega Holdings Bhd, Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd, Press Metal Bintulu Sdn Bhd, Accenture Malaysia, Aegis BPO Malaysia Sdn Bhd and Vinda Group SEA. The companies also sponsored 30 gifts for the event.
