A motivational programme and English and Bahasa Malaysia tuition was carried out by the Department of Soft Skills Competency (DSSC) of Sungai Long Campus and UTAR students on 21 July 2018 at Sungai Long Campus.
The programme aimed to equip Year 4, 5 and 6 students with basic language comprehension and build their confidence in using the languages in daily conversations. This tuition also aimed to prepare students for their major school examinations.
Targeting students from Chinese schools and schools in new villages, the selected students were those who scored at a satisfactory level in both English and Bahasa Malaysia subjects.
The one-time tuition allowed students to learn the theoretical and practical parts of the languages. The programme also provided some activities such as station games and challenging activities to enhance their creativity.
Building a tower using raw pasta and marshmallow
The activities were planned and led by the concept of teambuilding. The activities not only meant to cultivate a sense of responsibility among the students, but to also hone communication skills for the whole group. These activities also acted as an approach to enable students to use the languages in their daily conversations. At the end of the day, the joy was reflected in the bright faces of the students.
