Visit by UNMAS Denpasar

Visitors from the Universitas Mahasaraswati (UNMAS) Denpasar visited the Faculty of Accountancy and Management (FAM) at Sungai Long Campus on 5 June 2018. Present at the event were FAM lecturers and UNMAS Denpasar lecturers. The visit aimed to forge closer ties between the two universities while exchanging knowledge in terms of research and teaching, staff exchanges, training and workshops.

FAM Dean Dr Sia Bee Chuan welcomed the guests and said, “We are glad to have this continuous connection with you and the opportunity to come again together for this kind of collaboration. We are geared up towards the change in the environment and we are looking at the fourth industrial revolution, digital economy, artificial intelligence and big data which are impacting the economy. We as lecturers, have to be prepared and involve ourselves in research and consultancy to provide knowledge to students.”

At the event, FAM Deputy Dean for Academic Development and Undergraduate Programmes Dr Hen Kai Wah conducted a knowledge sharing session on e-Commerce. In the session, he spoke about the milestone of e-Commerce Development in Malaysia, e-Commerce Imperative in Malaysia, 11 programmes of the strategic roadmap, challenges of e-Commerce in Malaysia and its solution and the initiatives taken by UTAR to promote e-Commerce. He said, “There are six thrust areas in the National e-Commerce strategic Roadmap which are Accelerate seller adoption of e-Commerce, Increase adoption of e-Procurement by businesses, Lift non-tariff barriers, Realign existing economic incentives, Make strategic investments in select e-Commerce player(s) and Promote national brand to boost cross-border e-Commerce. There is a huge room for improvement in e-Commerce and there is a need for Malaysian to tap into the big market to remain relevant in the industry.”

The sharing session was continued by UNMAS Faculty of Economic Dr Luh Kadek Budi Martini and Ni Wayan Eka Mitaraini with their research presentation titled “The Effect of Successor Characteristics on the Planning of Successful in Family Business in Bali”. The research was conducted in a family company engaged in textile and weaving industry in Bali, whether small, medium or large, with the condition it has made a minimum succession to the second generation. The conclusion of the research was the better the successor’s characteristics, the succession planning becomes better and the willingness to take over the management of the family business will strengthen the commitment of all the family members.

Universitas Mahasaraswati Dean Dr Putu Kepramareni said in her closing remark, “It is an honour to be here today to experience the warm hospitality of UTAR. We hope to collaborate in the near future in creating training and workshops, research and staff exchange. We look forward to your visit at our university.”

The event was followed by the presentation of certificates, exchanges of souvenirs and refreshment.
